Discord Agent — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Discord bot and related services operated by Chang Zeng (collectively, the “Agent”) process information.

Terms of Service

1. Information the Agent processes

Depending on the features you use and the permissions granted to the Agent, it may process:

  • Discord account and server data: user IDs, usernames or display names, server IDs, channel IDs, role IDs, and related Discord metadata;
  • Interactions and content: slash commands, command options, prompts, messages or message excerpts you intentionally send to or invoke the Agent with, attachments, and the Agent’s responses;
  • Server settings: preferences, enabled features, permissions, and other configuration selected by server administrators; and
  • Technical data: timestamps, error reports, rate-limit information, and limited diagnostic or security logs.

The Agent does not request your Discord password or authentication token. It accesses only data made available through Discord and the permissions granted to it.

2. How information is used

Information is used only to:

  • provide requested commands and features;
  • maintain server-specific settings;
  • operate, troubleshoot, secure, and prevent abuse of the Agent;
  • respond to support, privacy, and legal requests; and
  • improve the Agent using aggregated or de-identified information.

Discord API data is not sold, used for targeted advertising, or used to build profiles for eligibility decisions. It is not used to train generalized artificial-intelligence models.

3. When information is shared

Information may be shared only:

  • with service providers that process it on the operator’s behalf to host or deliver the Agent, including an AI service provider when needed to answer a request;
  • with Discord as part of normal use of the Discord platform;
  • when you direct the Agent to display or send information to a channel or another user;
  • when required by law or a valid legal process; or
  • when reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the Agent, or the public.

The operator does not sell personal information. Service providers receive only the information reasonably necessary to perform their services and are expected to protect it.

4. Data retention

Personal data is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Agent’s functions, maintain security, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations. Transient command content may be processed without being permanently stored. Server settings and identifiers may remain stored while the Agent is installed. Data that is no longer needed is deleted or de-identified. Limited information may remain in backups or security records until those records expire in the ordinary course.

5. Your choices and deletion requests

You can limit processing by not submitting content, disabling optional permissions or features, or removing the Agent from a server you administer. To request access to or deletion of personal data associated with your Discord account or server, email changzeng@umass.edu with:

  • the subject line “Discord Agent Privacy Request”;
  • your Discord user ID and, if relevant, server ID; and
  • a description of your request.

Additional verification may be requested to protect users from fraudulent requests. Valid requests will be handled within a reasonable period and as required by applicable law. Some data may be retained when legally required or necessary for security and abuse prevention.

6. Security

Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used to protect information. However, no online system is completely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed. Please report suspected security issues using the contact information below.

7. Children

The Agent is not directed to children under 13 or anyone below the minimum age required to use Discord in their country. The operator does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone who is not permitted to use Discord. If you believe such data has been collected, please request its deletion.

8. International processing

The Agent and its service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, appropriate safeguards will be used for international transfers of personal data.

9. Discord’s privacy practices

Discord separately processes information under its own Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy covers only processing controlled by the Agent’s operator and does not replace Discord’s policies.

10. Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as the Agent changes or legal requirements evolve. The updated date will appear at the top of this page. Material changes will receive additional notice when appropriate.
